- What is the difference between AI Overview tracking and rank tracking?
- Rank tracking records where your page appears in the ordinary search results for a keyword. AI Overview tracking records whether Google shows an AI-generated answer above those results and which sources that answer cites. One measures position; the other measures whether you are part of the answer.
- Can a page rank well and still not be cited in an AI Overview?
- Yes. AI Overviews draw on sources that are not always the top-ranking pages, so a page can hold a strong position while the AI answer above it cites competitors. That gap is invisible to rank tracking alone, which is why the two are tracked separately.
